Four Furniture Removal Tips for Your Next Move

by Cheryl Dunn

When you are planning a move, hiring furniture removalists is usually at the top of your list. You want to make sure your furniture is packed and moved to the new location as safely and quickly as possible. Unfortunately, you may overlook a few things and leave far too much up to the removalists. If you are getting ready for a move, consider these four tips before the removalists arrive.

Pack Personal Items Yourself

When you hire a furniture removalist, you may be told that they will pack and move everything. This sounds wonderful, but remember that everything means all of your personal items as well. Make sure that you pack any items you don't want someone else seeing or touching yourself. Have the boxes ready for the removalist to move and mark them discreetly.

Set Aside Boxes for the Last Day

There will be items that you are keeping with you for the last night and day. You may have thought about just using a suitcase or throwing the last minute items into your car. Plan ahead, and make sure you have a space for everything by set aside boxes for those items. This will keep them secure and help you ensure you have the items you need for that last night or day. Items like coffee makers, disposable plates or cups, and chargers for phones are common items that you will need for that last night before the move.

Cover the Floor

Make sure that you protect the carpeting and tile of the home you are leaving. This is especially important if you are moving from a rental property since you are liable for any damage to the property. Use a canvas or tarp of some kind to cover the floor and protect it as the removalists are moving items out of the home. This will keep dirt and stains from damaging the carpet or rips from occurring on the tile in case the furniture drops or slides roughly along the floor surface.

Understand the Contract Completely

A final step to take before the removalists arrive, like Acrobat Removals, is understanding the contract completely. Make sure you review the contract at the time you sign it and before the moving day. Look for any fees related to the removal of your items or damage to those items. Make sure there are no hidden fees and that any insurance for your items covers those items under all circumstances. For example, make sure the insurance covers your items in case they are broken during transit or broken while they are being taken from the old property and moved into the property.

If you have any questions regarding the move, make sure to ask at the time you sign your contract or a few days prior to the move. This gives you enough time to take care of any issues and come up with alternate options if necessary.
